Ellen Hopkins Bike Distribution
We are excited to be doing our second annual bike distribution in partnership with Ellen Hopkins Elementary School on June 18th from 6-9pm! This event takes a lot of extra hands, so we would love to have you come volunteer with us! There are a variety of ways you can be involved with this event from the planning, hosting, running activities, food, bike repair, and bike fittings. Let us know you'd like to help by registering below and we will reach out with a more specific sign-up closer to the date. (Registration is for volunteering only, Ellen Hopkins families do not need to pre-register for the event.)

What is Boaz Bike Ministry?
Boaz Bike Ministry is a group of volunteers from Salem and other local churches that collect, repair and give away used bikes to new Americans and others with transportation needs. We also serve those in Salem’s neighborhood by providing free bikes and bike repair.
How can I be involved?
Great question! We need volunteers gifted in bicycle mechanics to help make this program work. However, mechanics of all skill levels with a willingness to learn are welcome!
Come join us for weekly maintenance on Thursday evenings 6:30-9pm from mid-March through July. The 2026 season will begin March 12th and run through July 30th.

Donations of bicycles and bike locks are accepted year-round. Please email Ken before dropping anything off at the church, or if you need to arrange to have a bike picked up.
Frequently asked questions:
What sizes of bikes are in highest demand?
Adult men's bikes, medium size are the highest demand, but we will take bikes of any size, age and condition. Unrepairable bikes are salvaged for parts.
Do you accept donated bike helmets?
Helmets have an expiration date, so we will only accept new helmets.
Is there an Amazon wishlist to purchase items to donate?
No. Cash donations are welcome. We have an account with a wholesaler so we can purchase parts at a significantly lower price than Amazon.
If a person only knows how to inflate tires and grease a chain, can they be helpful?
Yes! Anyone willing to learn is welcome.
How are bikes distributed?
Two ways:
- Neighborhood families that stop in are given a bike if they demonstrate a need. They are often invited to help with repairs or to bring in a bike they already own for repairs.
- There are several service organizations in the area that refer their clients to us for bicycles. Some organizations prefer to have us give them bikes and they handle the distribution.
