Adult Learning Groups

Join a short-term learning group to engage God's word together!

Salem's Adult Learning Groups are short-term groups where you can engage with others while studying God's Word and the Christian life through various types of studies. Come and connect with others while digging into scripture and being challenged to live more fully for Christ.

Adult Learning Groups will kick-off September 27

9:00 am

Compassion and Conviction | 9:00 am, Room 16
September 27-November 5
Facilitators: Mark Strand and Nikki Dunham
What does scripture say about the role of the Christian in the public square? How does the local church stand strong on biblical convictions, while also showing compassion to the needs of those around them? Do you feel the push and pull of division in society over issues important to Christians? You’re not alone. Too often we are asked to land on either the side of conviction or the side of compassion. As followers of Jesus Christ we must learn how to hold both in tension. This means not allowing political alliances to determine our view of civic engagement but rather allowing scripture to be the basis. Join us as we wrestle with how as Christians we can faithfully engage in civic engagement and serve a world in need. We will discuss one chapter each week. Topics will include community service, advocacy, messaging and rhetoric, race, and political culture. All are welcome. It isn’t necessary to attend every week to benefit from the discussion.
Pursuing Prayer (Practicing the Way) | 9:00am, Room 13
September 27 - October 18
Facilitators:  Erica and David Lindahl, Christian Thompson
Prayer is simply the medium through which we communicate and commune with God. The practice of prayer is learning to set aside dedicated time to intentionally be with God in order to become like him and partner with him in the world.
Encountering Scripture (Practicing the Way) | 9:00am, Room 13
November 1 - November 22
Facilitators:  Erica and David Lindahl, Christian Thompson
The Library we call the Bible can connect us to God and change who we are, but distraction, hurry, and confusion can hinder our experience with these ancient texts.  Rediscover how to engage Scripture as an apprentice to Jesus.
